Decide whether the PNG needs to become a JPG
Check the destination first. If it accepts PNG and your file already fits its size limit, there may be no reason to convert. A JPG copy can be helpful when an upload form requires it or when a photograph has been saved in an unnecessarily large PNG file. Conversion is less suitable when the result still needs transparency.
This page always outputs JPG. JPG and JPEG refer to the same image format, despite the different filename extensions. A filename change alone does not perform the conversion: the image has to be encoded in the requested format.
Example: place a transparent logo on white
You have a transparent PNG logo, and a profile editor accepts only JPG. Select a white background if the logo will appear against a white page. After conversion, inspect the border around the logo, especially faint gray strokes or shadows. The solid background is now part of the image and will remain visible if the page behind it changes color.
For a pale logo, white may hide important details. Choose a darker background and compare the result before downloading. The tool does not remove an existing colored background; it only fills areas that were transparent. A white rectangle already present in the source remains white.
Check screenshots and small text carefully
A PNG screenshot may contain tiny text, thin rules and flat color areas. Converting it to JPEG can introduce artifacts around those edges. Inspect the downloaded copy at its intended display size rather than assuming that a smaller file is equally readable. Keep the original PNG if you may need to edit or convert it again.
File size is not guaranteed to decrease. The picture's content and the browser's encoder affect the result. If an upload has a precise byte limit, compare the actual file size with that requirement and use the image compressor for a separate size reduction attempt.
Troubleshooting a PNG that will not open
The input must be a still PNG. Animated PNG, JPEG, WebP, SVG, GIF, HEIC and PDF files are unsupported on this page. A misleading filename is not enough to make another format valid. Try opening the file in your usual image viewer to check that it is readable.
There are limits of 25 MB and 24 megapixels per image, plus 12 files per batch. A 6000 by 4000 picture reaches the pixel limit even when its compressed file is small. Try a smaller batch if your device struggles with several large inputs.
Each side is limited to 16,384 pixels. Outputs are limited to 25 MB per image and 150 MB per batch; ZIP bundles the files without recompression.

Will the JPG keep transparency?
No. Transparent areas are replaced by your chosen background color. Save the original PNG if you need a transparent version for another purpose.
Can I recover the original PNG from the JPG?
You can create a PNG file later, but that will not recover removed transparency or detail lost during JPEG encoding. Keep the source file instead of relying on a round trip.
